Notice: I live in the Perth metro suburbs and I am intending getting 3 chooks for the backyard. I have an approved coop ready and my concern is to get a breed that are good layers and most important, quiet. I can remember my parents backyard chooks (Australorp First Cross) and they made an uproar when they got up, when they were scratching, when they were fed and when they laid an egg. That said, they laid their bums off. The coop is close to the neighbours fence and I don't want them disturbed.For preference I'd like brown eggs. May I have some suggestions please.
Notice: Duck Deaths - Halfway Creek. Our 3rd 3 month self incubated and hand reared Pekin has just dropped dead - it was healthy, happy and having a cuddle with us 1 hour ago and has just dropped dead literally in front of us as the other 2 have over the past month. Can anyone shed some light on what may be going wrong? They have been free range with heaps of food available. Are ducks susceptable to spider bites or ticks?
Notice: I have 9 peachicks born in November 2011. I need a home for the males. I would love to keep all the chicks but it isn’t practical, especially when I have an aggressive neighbour and I already have 3 males I just can’t part with (2 blue and 1 blue pied) so I must find a home for any males in the group. The chicks are friendly, come for food when they are called and are very sweet so I sincerely hope someone can give them a home. I don’t want any money for them.
